The Role
We are seeking a licensed Ontario Land Surveyor to join our Toronto-based team. This role is designed for a professional who excels at managing the full lifecycle of a project—focusing on high-level boundary determination, project management, and the professional supervision of field and office staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Management: Manage and execute a diverse portfolio of land surveying projects, including boundary surveys, topographic surveys, construction layout, and as-built surveys.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Act as a primary point of contact for clients, municipal authorities, and contractors, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to meet project objectives.
- Business Development: Support firm growth through business development activities, including proposal preparation and proactive client engagement.
- Legal Documentation: Prepare and certify reference plans, registered plans, severance applications, subdivisions, condominiums, topographic, grading and other forms of survey plans
- Field Operations Supervision: Direct and oversee field crews in the execution of surveys; ensure technical accuracy, procedural compliance, and rigorous quality control of all field data.
- Technical Review: Prepare and review survey plans, detailed reports, legal documents, and supporting technical drawings to ensure accuracy and adherence to AOLS standards.
- Boundary Determination: Interpret property records, deeds, and historical plans to support land development projects; perform detailed title searches and complex survey calculations.
- Mentorship & Safety: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate survey staff, including the oversight of Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) planning.

- Licensure: Licensed as an Ontario Land Surveyor (O.L.S.) in good standing
- Education: Undergraduate degree in engineering, land survey sciences or geomatics.
- Experience: 3-6 years of relevant experience in cadastral, topographic, and construction surveying.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong expertise in surveying software, specifically MicroSurvey, AutoCAD, and familiarity with modern survey instrumentation.
- Leadership: Proven experience leading projects, mentoring technical staff, and coordinating multidisciplinary teams is essential.

The Role
We are seeking an experienced and adaptable Survey Crew Chief to lead our field operations. In this role, you will be on the front lines of our projects, executing high-precision surveys, managing complex field data, and ensuring our sites operate safely and efficiently. You will serve as the face of Genesis while onsite, leading your crew and providing reliable, accurate data to support our engineering and boundary determination teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Survey Execution: Perform pre-engineering, topographic, and boundary surveys by assessing field and documentary evidence.
- Construction & Industrial Layout: Perform basic layout calculations, as well as construction layout for anchor bolt locations, grid lines, formwork, concrete piers, and footings.
- Equipment Operation: Collect field data using traditional survey instruments (total stations, high-precision levels), GPS field equipment, terrestrial scanners with support. Calibration of total stations as needed.
- Quality Control: Oversee QC of data collection, ensuring that field notes and daily data downloads are complete and accurate.
- Team Leadership: Mentor and train new field staff, fostering a collaborative and highly skilled team environment.
- Safety Compliance: Maintain safe workplace operations in strict compliance with our occupational health and safety policies and procedures.

- Licensure: You hold a valid, Class G driver's licence in good standing, and have a valid legal status to work in Canada.
- Education: Diploma in related surey field, or civil construction technology
- Experience: 3-5 years of relevant experience in cadastral, topographic, and construction surveying
- Technical Proficiency: Strong expertise in surveying software, specifically MicroSurvey FieldGenius or Carlson, AutoCAD, and familiarity with modern survey instrumentation
- Leadership: Proven experience leading projects, mentoring technical staff, and coordinating multidisciplinary teams is essential
